Coco Gauff grabbed her second championship of the year with a dominating success against Karolína Muchová, winning 6-1, 6-3 in the China Open final on Sunday.
Gauff, who is now ranked sixth globally, won this competition at the youngest age in 14 years at the age of just 20. After Serena Williams in 2004 and 2013, she is also the second American to win in Beijing.
Gauff won her eighth title overall and enhanced her already impressive finals record to 8-1 with this victory. She is impressively unbeaten in hard-court finals and has a perfect 7-0 record, which hasn't happened since the Open Era.
Gauff, who earlier this season successfully defended her Auckland championship, dominated the match right away, winning the opening set in only thirty-one minutes. She broke her opponent five times, fired off 24 winners, and lost only five points while dominating on her serve.
Gauff's performance in Beijing increases her prospects of making it to the WTA Finals for the third year in a row. Before the Wuhan Open, the final WTA 1000 tournament of the season, she will move up to the No. 5 position with her victory, surpassing Jessica Pegula.
In the Shanghai Masters, top seed Jannik Sinner staged a comeback after losing the first set, ultimately defeating Tomas Martin Etcheverry 6-7 (3), 6-4, 6-2.
The 23-year-old Italian faced a more difficult opponent in the No. 37-ranked Argentine, who played inside at Qizhong Forest Sports City Arena due to rain, only one day after celebrating his 250th career triumph with a straight-sets victory.
Sinner's next opponent will be either Roberto Carlos Baena of Spain or No. 16 Ben Shelton, who defeated him here the previous year.
During the first set tiebreak, Etcheverry displayed a remarkable drop volley that gave him a set point, which he converted to take the lead. But in the second set, Sinner started to get into a groove, trading breaks before grabbing a chance to even the score.
With newfound momentum in the final set, Sinner broke Etcheverry twice more, completing his victory in 2 hours and 39 minutes as rain limited play to the main court, delaying all other matches until Monday.
Fifth-ranked Daniil Medvedev also came from behind, defeating Matteo Arnaldi 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 to secure his spot in the fourth round against either 12th-seeded Stefanos Tsitsipas or Alexandre Muller.
The 28-year-old Medvedev lost a closely contested opening set and had to show a great deal of perseverance to tie the match. His expertise showed in the decisive set, where he won the ninth game with a crucial break and completed the match in two hours and forty-four minutes.
Meanwhile, second-ranked Carlos Alcaraz, who won the China Open earlier in the week for his fourth title this year, triumphed over Chinese player Wu Yibing with a score of 7-6 (5), 6-3.
